As community health responders, Englewood Hospital’s EMS staff is actively involved in the health of our neighbors. Our goal is to provide the community with the means to lead healthier lives as well as vital medical care when emergencies strike.
Our EMS staff provides a key point of contact between the hospital and its surrounding communities. Offering a multidisciplinary approach to emergency care, patient transportation, and community education, EMS staff members integrate the hospital’s services directly into neighboring areas.
From basic transport and patient care procedures to specialty response techniques—including hazardous material and natural disaster management—the EMS team at Englewood Hospital has the staff and technology to provide focused emergent care.
The services provided by our EMS team go well beyond ambulance service and basic expectations. From minor incidents to major disasters, our team is prepared and capable of responding in an efficient manner. This level of expertise helps set us apart as one of the leading emergency response centers in our area.
In addition to emergency response, the EMS team at Englewood Hospital provides other essential community services. CPR training courses and participation in local health fairs are only two of the many ways this talented department remains involved. Beyond helping residents of the community improve their health, the EMS team at Englewood Hospital also provides additional training for local healthcare providers.
Basic Life Support
Englewood Hospital and Medical Center EMS provides 9-1-1 Basic Life Support Services to Palisades Park, Leonia and the City of Englewood. We staff up to seven BLS units during our peak normal operating periods. All of our units are licensed by the State of New Jersey for both emergent and non-emergent patient transportation.
Our units are staffed with a minimum of two certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Our BLS staff has been trained in pre-hospital emergency care as well as additional training in the Incident Command and Incident Management Systems, local, state, and federal response plans, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hazardous Materials Response, Mass Casualty Triage and Treatment, as well as other courses offered through our Special Operations Division.
BLS Units are dispatched by the Mobile Intensive Care Communication Center (MICCOM). The communications center is equipped with a state of the art Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) with the capability of providing System Status Management (SSM) using Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) and Live Routing Software to ensure the closest unit is dispatched. The communications staff is trained as Advanced Medical Dispatchers, which exceeds the standards set forth in New Jersey. Our state of the art protocol system enables the call to be assigned a priority to ensure the proper response and increase the safety of the responders and the public.
