The Borough of Palisades Park was created by the Borough Act of 1878, which allowed townships to separate and establish itself as an independent Borough. Palisades Park was incorporated on March 22, 1899 from portions of Ridgefield Township.

A lot advertisement featured in the 1902 edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine described Palisades Park as “not merely a ‘section’ or “subdivision,’ but a wide expanse of beautiful rolling land, a park offering the freedom and the pure air of the ideal suburban residence locality, macadamized streets, stone sidewalks, water, gas, electricity, a perfect sewerage system, shade trees in abundance, and good transportation facilities, which later will present even a greater degree of perfection when the tunnels now building under the Hudson River are completed” (Beck, George M. Palisades Park.).

Located West of the Hudson River, Palisades Park is now 1.25 square miles and has a diverse population of about 19,936. Efficient borough services, thriving businesses, a vibrant housing market, and quality school systems have become defining characteristics of this fast-growing town, and while much has changed since the incorporation of Palisades Park in 1899, this town will continue to build upon its rich history for generations to come.
